There’s the field where farmers use our machines. And then there’s the field of agricultural equipment makers like AGCO...And figuratively speaking, we’re doing everything we can to un-level it.
“For the farmers. For the people working for them. For ourselves. For the future.”
Our customers are under intense pressure to produce more food with fewer resources. And in order to succeed in meeting that challenge, they must also be profitable. At AGCO, we believe we can help ensure a dependable, adequate and accessible global food supply by equipping our customers with products and services to effectively meet these challenges. We are helping farmers grow crops in a way that supports food security through better soil health, increased operational efficiency, decreased operating costs, improved profitability and, most importantly, improved crop yield.
AGCO works to leverage opportunities to allow farmers to experience higher profitability through more efficient and sustainable products that can achieve greater productivity. For example, our application equipment division creates products that increase overall water efficiency and better control the application of fertilizer in order to conserve resources and help protect surrounding ecosystems.
AGCO recently introduced the IDEAL combine, designed from the ground up to focus on in-field efficiency, maximum uptime, simplified operation and better grain quality. A special grain-quality camera and 52 sensors determine what is grain and what isn’t and allows the IDEAL to change settings in real time to maximize efficiency. The IDEAL also has the industry’s largest grain tank and fastest unloading rate, making operation faster and more efficient.
Our Fuse Smart Farming digital ag solutions are designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind. A USDA Economic Research study found that a typical 1,600-acre farm in the U.S. could see an average $26,000 gross annual benefit from using smart farming technologies that help farms increase yields and productivity while reducing costs and environmental impacts.
We proudly launched the Fendt e100 Vario tractor, our first all-electric tractor, in 2017. Farmers now have the option to power their tractors with renewable energy and reduce noise, emissions and dependence on fossil fuels in the process.
And our Fendt 900 Vario tracked tractors provide added efficiency for farmers while reducing fuel consumption—even in challenging weather and rugged or slippery terrain. Tracks distribute the tractor’s weight more evenly and protects the soil from being compacted.
Remanufacturing (REMAN), the process by which we take back used components such as engines and related components, transmissions, hydraulics to gearboxes, fuel components and technology and remanufacture them to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specification, delivers results for both the environment and our customers. REMAN parts offer customers a more affordable replacement option.
Utilizing AGCO REMAN also benefits the environment: Each year, AGCO dealers return more than 1,000,000 pounds of core to our core center, keeping that material out of the scrap yard. Returning core is essential to the availability of AGCO REMAN parts. Our goal is to continue to increase the number of pounds collected.
Additionally, the REMAN process requires up to 80% less energy and material than a new part.
We aim to provide the products and services our customers need to prosper over the long term. Along with enabling farmers to digitalize their farming practices, we work to provide them with solutions for better farm productivity and soil health by facilitating precise use of fuel, water and treatment aids. Our Fuse® Smart Farming tools, for example, provides comprehensive solutions that enable farmers to plan, produce, and protect crops through the entire crop cycle. In emerging markets, the challenge of transforming agriculture to grow enough food to sustainably feed people goes beyond higher yields and greater field productivity—it extends as well to the important role played by crop storage. In Zambia, for example, inadequate storage infrastructure results in post-harvest losses of more than 30% from insects, rodents and rot.
Our 150-hectare Martin Richenhagen Future Farm in Zambia helps local farmers raise themselves up through focused, relevant farmer education. Featuring the full line of Fuse technologies, our Future Farm includes crop demonstration plots and GSI grain storage and protein production units, while providing training in agronomy and modern agricultural practices.
From 1.5 to 5.7 TONNES—our Future Farm shows how farmers can more than triple their yield per acre versus traditional methods.
Today’s farmers use AGCO’s technology and products to save fuel, effectively use treatment aids, increase crop yield and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. AGCO is committed to investing in product development, design and manufacturing to meet the varying needs of all markets where farmers operate. We support farmers through increasingly innovative technology that allows more efficient operations of farm equipment, saving time and resources and allowing the farmer to do more with less. The significant ongoing investments we make in Fuse Smart Farming technology, as well as efforts to streamline our product development process, support this objective.
